What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive, non-surgical skin resurfacing treatment that clears away dull, dry skin and uneven skin texture for a refreshed and glowing complexion. Dermaplaning involves one of our licensed aesthetic professionals using a specialized, sharp blade to gently and painlessly scrape away the uppermost layer of skin along the face or treated areas. This scraping removes dead skin cells and tiny “peach fuzz” hairs on the face the contribute to a textured appearance. After dermaplaning, patients find that their face not only feels heathier, but is also smoother for makeup application and skincare absorption.

What Does Dermaplaning Do for My Skin?

Dermaplaning is a great non-invasive resurfacing treatment that allows our patients to address the following skin concerns:

  • Dull skin
  • Dry patches
  • Unwanted hair or “peach fuzz”
  • Acne scarring
  • Sun damage

What Can I Expect From My Dermaplaning Treatment?

Your dermaplaning treatment will be performed by one of our licensed aesthetic professionals in our beautiful facility. Before your dermaplaning treatment begins, your provider will cleanse the skin of your treated areas to remove any excess makeup or oils. Once comfortable, your provider will begin scraping away the uppermost layer of your skin using a specialized blade. An entire dermaplaning treatment typically take 20 to 30 minutes complete, however treatment times may vary depending on the size of the treatment area.

What Can I Expect After My Dermaplaning Treatment?

Patients will be able to see their desired results immediately following their treatment session. We often recommend patients come in for regular dermaplaning treatments every three to four weeks to maintain their desired results.

It’s important to remember that your skin may be sensitive following your dermaplaning treatment. This is normal and typically resolves on its own within a few days. Our licensed professionals recommend protecting your treatment areas at this time with a medical-grade SPF.

Is Dermaplaning Better Than Microdermabrasion?

Dermaplaning may not necessarily be more appropriate than microdermabrasion as it provides benefits that microdermabrasion may already offer. Different people use the two treatments for different reasons. However, the dermaplaning or microdermabrasion side effects may affect some people differently depending on their skin types.

How Often Should You Do Dermaplaning?

It is typically recommended to dermaplane every 4-6 weeks. Dermaplaning to often can cause your skin to dry out as it is over exfoliating your skin. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment.

Does Dermaplaning Make Your Hair Grow Thicker?

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a scalpel blade to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. This treatment should not cause hair to grow back thicker or darker. As it does grow it can seem this way after having none present for some time.

How Much Does Dermaplaning Cost?

The cost of your dermaplaning treatment will vary depending on the size of your treatment area and the extent of treatment needed to help you achieve your desired results. To get a more accurate estimate of how much your dermaplaning treatment will cost, we encourage you to come in for a complimentary consultation with one of our licensed medical professionals.
